Getting Started with Where Next Connector

Install the Connector, map your WordPress content and add the Send to Where Next button.

1. Download the plugin

Download the latest version of Where Next Connector from the Where Next downloads page.

2. Install it in WordPress

  1. Open the WordPress administration area.
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin.
  3. Select Upload Plugin.
  4. Choose the downloaded ZIP file.
  5. Select Install Now.
  6. When installation completes, select Activate Plugin.

Updates can subsequently be installed through the normal WordPress Plugins or Updates screens.

3. Select your content types

Open Where Next → Settings and select the WordPress post types containing the places or events you want to connect.

The available post types depend on your website. They can include posts, pages and public custom post types supplied by your theme or another plugin.

4. Configure place and event content

Select which post types represent events. Event content can use additional mappings for its start date and end date.

Content not selected as an event is treated as place content.

5. Map your WordPress fields

Map your existing WordPress data to the Where Next fields. Sources can include standard WordPress fields, custom fields and public taxonomies.

  • Name or title
  • Address and postcode
  • Website and booking URL
  • Cover image
  • Category
  • Latitude and longitude
  • Opening times
  • Prices and pricing notes
  • Facilities and suitability information
  • Event start and end dates

Only map fields that exist on your website. Unused Where Next fields can remain set to Not used.

6. Configure the button

Choose the button label, icon, colours, style and size in the Connector settings.

The free version supports the core Send to Where Next button. A valid Pro licence also enables automatic placement, display templates, positioning, device targeting and desktop QR codes.

7. Review content quality

Open Where Next → Content Quality to review connected content and identify missing or incomplete information.

  • Filter the report by content type or quality issue.
  • Open individual records that need attention.
  • Update the original WordPress content or field mapping.
  • Refresh content after correcting its source information.

8. Test a page

  1. Open a published place or event on the public website.
  2. Confirm that the Send to Where Next button is visible.
  3. Select the button and confirm the correct place or event details are presented.
  4. Test on both desktop and mobile if device targeting is being used.

Activating Pro

Free and Pro use the same plugin. After obtaining a Pro licence, enter and activate the licence through the Where Next Connector account or licence screen. The additional features become available without installing another plugin.
